AUSTRALIA POST will be opening two new facilities in Rowville - one for the locals and one for the nation.
The government-owned postal service has relocated its stamp factory to a new state-of-the-art facility on Enterprise Dve, while also considering opening up a service desk at Wellington Village Shopping Centre.
Australia Post has moved its stamp factory from Knoxfield and built a one-of-a-kind brand new building in Rowville which will provide extra space for production and support future growth.
Australia Post spokesperson Melanie Ward said the factory was the only one of its kind in Australia and could produce about 1.2 million gummed and 2.5 million self-adhesive stamps a day.
Currently the facility employs 93 people and also produces coins, collectibles and express and registered post products which will be sold across Australia.
"We have also moved from operating across three buildings at Knoxfield into a single, purpose-built site in Rowville which will help improve efficiencies," Ms Ward said.
Meanwhile Federal Aston MP Alan Tudge last week announced the opening of an Australia Post service desk at an existing retailer at Wellington Village.
Mr Tudge said the nearest post office was at Stud Park and was often straining as a result of population growth in Rowville and Lysterfield.
"The service would be developed in conjunction with an existing tenant under an arrangement that would make it an Australian first," Mr Tudge said.
