Wuzhou is located in the south east of Guangxi which is the biggest gum rosin producing province in China, the history of Chinese gum rosin began from the area in 1950s. In the first half of 2009, 15 thousand Mt gum rosin was exported to overseas market from Wuzhou, account for 50 percent of total export volume of Guangxi, the exoprt value reached 18.62 million USD, decreased by 33% in volume and 29.2% in valume. Although the export is in downward trend in the first half of 2009, it has the feature as following.
Export volume increased monthly, in February, the export of gum rosin from Wuzhou hit the bottom of 1831 Mt and then gradually climbed up, in June, the export volume broke through 3000Mt.
Ordinary trade is dominated the export but processing trade continually increased. In the first half of 2009, total ordinary trade volume was 13 thousand Mt, decreased by 37.2%; processing trade volume was 2294Mt, increased by 6.2%.
Volume fluctuated in different import market. In the first half of 2009, export volume to Europe and Japan reached 4006Mt and 3090Mt respectively, decreased by 48.2% and 43.7%; however, export volume to South East Asia and US is in upward trend, the export volume was 1621Mt and 1431Mt, increased by 9.1% and 52.3%. Total imported volume by the above mentioned regions accounted for 68% of total export volume.
Gum rosin export decreased obviously but derivatives export increased against dark economic environment. In the first half year, gum rosin export from Wuzhou was 4116Mt, decreased by 65.9% compare to the same period of last year, export volume of gum rosin derivatives products reached 11 thousand Mt, increased by 6%. It is indicated that gum rosin derivatives Industry has a good development impetus in the area.
