Jiangxi province is rich in pine forest resource, the acreage of pine tree reach more than 330 hectares, among them 290 hectares are Pinus Massonina, 55 hectares are Pinus Elloittii. The annual output of gum rosin and turpentine oil reached a new record of 65 thousand tons and 11.7 thousand tons respectively in 2005, the annual turnover of the industry was 0.8 billion RMB. Gum turpentine oil derivatives industry in the province has excellent development impetus, the annual demand of turpentine oil as raw material is over 200 thousand tons, many gum turpentine oil derivatives manufacturers have to purchase turpentine oil from other provinces. The annual output of terpene resin reached near 200 thousand tons. Meanwhile, the annual yield of gum rosin resin is 6 thousand tons in last year. But other production other derivatives products such as disproportionated rosin, hydrogenated rosin, Terpineol, synthetic camphor, ect is still weak and much room for development are left.
According to statistic from forest authority, there are 93 gum rosin factories in the province, 48 factories produce gum rosin with steam method, the rest with indigenous method.
