WILMINGTON, Delaware – A new cellulosic thickener from Ashland Aqualon Functional Ingredients, a commercial unit of Ashland Inc. (NYSE: ASH), enables formulators of waterborne decorative paints to deliver a variety of end-use attributes – from high thickening efficiency and superior application properties to biostability.

Ashland’s Natrosol™ HE 3KB modified hydroxyethylcellulose (HEC) thickener provides a combination of aqueous phase and associative thickening and is highly efficient and effective across the entire range of popular latex binder systems. Natrosol HE 3KB hydroxyethylcellulose thickener is specifically engineered to provide outstanding in-can feel, brushability, and flow and leveling, while protecting the cellulose backbone from enzyme attack.

“This is an important extension to our portfolio of Natrosol cellulosic thickeners,” said Hilbert Esselbrugge, global new-product leader, Coatings Additives. “With Natrosol HE 3KB, formulators get a high-efficiency thickener that significantly improves in-can feel, applied hiding and spatter resistance, as well as other desired application properties. Test results show that even after water dilution, paints thickened with Natrosol HE 3KB HEC maintain desired rheological and application properties, delivering a beautiful finished appearance.”

Ashland will be showcasing Natrosol cellulosic thickeners and other leading technologies used in the formulation of paints and industrial coatings at the Eurocoat show in Genoa, Italy, Nov. 9 – 11. For more information, visit the Ashland Aqualon Functional Ingredients booth in stand C 62.
