China Adhesive Industry began to develop very early. Accompanied by the increasing economy and the innovation of adhesive industry, it is keeping fast pace through these years. The numerous adhesive production and research units emerging in recent years have paved the way so far for application fields into the architectural, automobile, electronic, electrical household appliances, wooden articles, housing facilities, paper product and packaging, shoe-making, communications and transportation, space and aviation, medical and hygiene industries. The output increased sharply from 1.338 million tons in 1996 to 3.79 million tons in 2004. During the 11th Five-Year plan, China demand for adhesive and sealant products will increase at the rate of more than 10%. By the year 2010, the total output will reach 7.30 million tons, with the average growth rate of 11.5%.
According to the statistics, during the period of 1992 to 2004, the average annual growth of China PSA product reached 16.3%. In 2004 the sales volume was 13.5 billion RMB, while the export volume was 250 million USD. China has already become the important export country for PSA product.
China adhesive market is characterized by rapid growth of both production and sales volume, continuous emergence of new products and new equipment, rapid development of foreign-funded enterprises, more emphasis on environmental protection technology and products, meanwhile it has intense market competition for most products, and needs to import some important raw materials and new-high technology. Due to the shortage of some energy such as coal, electricity and oil, and their rapidly increased price, enterprises have to bear much more cost than before. Later on, China adhesive production will develop in the way of scaling and centralization, focus on environment-protection and energy-saving products (e.g. solvent-free, high solid content, water-borne, UV-curing, low temperature-curing, etc.) as the main stream, and achieve diversification of production and requirement. The prospect of China adhesive market is promising, and it will surely become one of the most rapidly developing industries in China.
