A research project named " Mechanism of Reactions and Application Research on Synthesizing Flavor from Sesquiterpene Compound in Turpentine oil (Heavy grade)" which held by Beijing Forest University was evaluated by National Forest bureau Sicence and Technology Division in April fourth. Four top grade flavor has been synthesized from turpentine oil (heavy grade), Experts in the evaluation meeting said that the research has filled the gap in the nation.
Turpentine oil (heavy grade) is one of by products of gum rosin production; the total annual output is about 10 thousand tons in China. Generally turpentine oil (heavy grade) was sold as waste material with low price, but in fact it contain some key ingredients of top grade flavor. Mr. Chen from Beijing Forest university belief that it has great economic potential and began to research it from 1980's. With modern organic chemical hitech, researchers produce several useful ingredients from sesquiterpene in turpentine oil (heavy grade). The research gives a new way for the utilization of turpentine oil (heavy grade).
