MWV AGI Polymatrix Media Packaging Facilities Receive Safety Certification for DVD Packaging
RICHMOND, VA (April 10, 2008)—AGI Polymatrix, part of MWV (NYSE: MWV), announced today that its plastic DVD packaging facilities received a certificate of compliance from the Content Delivery and Storage Association (CDSA). The CDSA’s voluntary certification, called the Plastic DVD Standard Packaging Program, requires manufacturers to submit finished plastic DVD packaging samples from their facilities for independent testing of hazardous materials. Compliance with the program ensures that the products comply with the limits for hazardous materials as set forth in the CDSA Standard.
The Plastic DVD Standard Packaging Program certification is designed to protect the health of consumers and the environment by placing tighter controls on the materials used in DVD packaging. AGI Polymatrix’s materials went through a series of laboratory tests to qualify for the CDSA certification. By adopting these regulations, the company is helping to ensure product safety throughout its supply chain – from resin formulation, through molding operations and consumer use.
“DVD cases are the first point of contact for the consumer, and should be absolutely safe,” said John Perkins, vice president, Global Marketing Operations, MWV Packaging. “We elected to engage in this new safety standard to ensure the integrity of the resin used in manufacturing our polypropylene boxes, which are already made from the same type of plastic that is recommended for ‘toxin-free’ baby bottles.”
Both of AGI Polymatrix’s manufacturing facilities, located in Elizabethtown, Ky., and Pittsfield, Mass., submitted samples that met the safety standards outlined by the CDSA.
“AGI Polymatrix has consistently demonstrated that sustainability and social responsibility are driving forces behind its business,” said Charles Van Horn, president of CDSA. “Choosing to meet the CDSA standard is further proof of the company’s industry leadership in accountability and stewardship.”
The CDSA is the worldwide forum advocating the innovative and responsible delivery and storage of entertainment, software and information content. Its global trade association's membership includes companies involved in every facet along the digital and physical media supply chain.
