BEIJING--China's Ministry of Commerce said Friday it is raising existing anti-dumping duties on imported chloroprene rubber supplied by a Japanese company following complaints about pricing from local rubber makers.

In a statement published on its website, the ministry said it will adjust the anti-dumping duties on imports produced by Japan's Denki Kagaku Kogyo Kabushiki Kaisha (4061.TO) to 20.8%, effective immediately.

China had previously imposed duties of 9.9% on the company's products.

In 2005, China imposed anti-dumping duties ranging from 2% to 151% on imported chloroprene rubber from Japan, the U.S. and the European Union for a five-year period. The Commerce Ministry extended the duties for another five years in 2011.

The Chinese Ministry of Commerce moved to reassess its anti-dumping measures after receiving complaints from local firms alleging that dumping activities by the Japanese company had intensified, the statement said.

Chloroprene rubber, also called neoprene, is an oil-and flame-resistant synthetic rubber widely used for wire and cable sheathing, conveyor belts and other industrial building materials.
