Henkel put a new adhesives factory into operation in the Hungarian city of Környe, in the district Komárom-Esztergom. The site is designed for an annual production capacity of about 22,000 tons of adhesives destined to supply the packaging and labeling industries, along with the brands Pattex and Thomsit (for floor applications) as well as special products for the electronics industry.
Close to 15 million euros were invested in the plant, which will employ a work force of more than 100 people in the future. Henkel Hungary is a subsidiary of the Viennese-based company Henkel CEE, which launched its successful business operations in Eastern European markets exactly 25 years ago by establishing a joint venture in Budapest with Henkel as the majority owner.
The new adhesives plant was ceremoniously opened after close to eleven months of construction in the Tatabánya-Környe Industrial Park in the presence of Sándor Czomba (State Secretary of the Hungarian Ministry of Economic Affairs), who emphasized the importance of the investment for the local economy.
“Our new factory is located in the heart of Europe”, says Jan-Dirk Auris, Member of the Management Board of Adhesive Technologies Henkel. “Moreover, the highest concentration of electronic companies in Europe can also be found here”. Hermann Deitzer, Head of Adhesive Technologies Henkel CEE, added: “From Környe we will supply adhesives to industrial customers which operate locally, regionally as well as globally”.
In addition to the adhesives plant in Környe, Henkel operates a second plant in Hungary, located in Körösladány, which manufactures detergents and cleaners. The headquarters of Henkel Hungary are in Budapest. “25 years ago Henkel in Hungary was not only the springboard of Henkel CEE to the Eastern European region. Henkel Hungary continues to be among the most important of the 32 markets which we coordinate from Vienna. This is underlined by the investments totaling close to 110 million euros which we have invested in Hungary in the past decade”, explains Günter Thumser, President of Henkel CEE.
