The Oilfield Technology Group (OTG) of Momentive Specialty Chemicals Inc., today announced that its focus has intensified in the Bakken Shale with additional transload facilities backed by the company’s manufacturing capabilities.
Momentive offers manufacturing capacity to the north and to the southeast on the main rail lines supporting the Bakken. The proppant manufacturing plant to the north is located in Sturgeon County, Alberta with the other plant located in Oregon, Illinois.
The company operates three transloads directly in the Bakken Shale to transfer proppant. This includes transloads in the east, west and in Canada to the north. These three strategically located transloads are in Lampman, Saskatchewan; Minot, North Dakota; and Dore, North Dakota. The Dore, ND transload is its newest addition that provides a convenient facility for hydraulic fracturing treatments taking place in the southern region of the play. Momentive currently has storage capacity for 60 million lbs of proppant in the Bakken.
Momentive’s strong logistics provide easy highway access to the main areas of the play. Its customers can have ease of access from Canada to the U.S. with a FAST Card. More routing alternatives are available to maximize payloads when weight restrictions are in place. There is also the benefit of Super B capability to Montana from the Canadian transloads. The fact that there are no restrictions from embargoes provides even more assurance of reliability and consistency of supply.
Not only does the company have the logistics and capacity, it offers new resin coated proppant technology to the area. This includes its new OilPlusTM proppant for enhanced oil recovery. This proppant is currently being manufactured in the U.S. and Canada.
Resin coated proppants are used in the hydraulic fracturing process to help optimize production from oil and gas wells by maximizing fracture flow capacity from the reservoir to the wellbore.
Technological innovations and Momentive’s introduction of enhanced materials have expanded the use of resin coated proppants into unconventional reservoirs that feature complex and challenging geological formations. Momentive’s experienced personnel, with their years of hydraulic fracturing knowledge and expertise, continue to bring advanced proppants to the industry.
