COLUMBUS, Ohio, Mar 27, 2012 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Momentive Specialty Chemicals Inc. (“Momentive Specialty Chemicals” or the “Company”), the leading supplier of epoxy resins, curing agents and bonding pastes to wind turbine blade manufacturers around the world, will showcase four revolutionary products at the JEC Europe 2012 Composites Show, March 27-29 in Paris. Momentive Specialty Chemicals provides a range of products and expert services for rotor blade fabrication by resin infusion, hand lay up, and prepreg.
At JEC 2012, Momentive Specialty Chemicals will feature the following innovative products for longer, lighter rotor blades:
-- EPIKOTE™ MGS® RIMR 145, an epoxy resin infusion system that can be used to infuse carbon fibers as if they were glass, allowing manufacturers to skip time-consuming prepreg processing. An innovative chemistry enables the low exothermic EPIKOTE MGS RIM145 to maintain a low viscosity longer, making the manufacture of stronger, lighter carbon fiber composites--even thick ones--more convenient and cost-effective. Furthermore, the resin itself is significantly stronger than the industry standard. It can be used with glass fiber as well.
-- EPIKOTE MGS RIMR 155 is a new, low-exothermic resin system designed for the control of heat development within a composite during the infusion of very thick structures. This safer system allows for quicker turnaround, correct curing and improved mechanical performance.
-- EPIKOTE MGS RIMR 9000 is a low viscosity epoxy tooling system with a long pot life. Once cured and ready to use, a mold made with EPIKOTE MGS RIMR 9000 has a higher glass transition temperature than other tooling systems and will be able to withstand the temperatures recommended for use with products such as EPIKOTE MGS RIMR 145.
-- EPIKOTE MGS BPR 435, Momentive Specialty Chemicals’ new bond paste, has four times the fatigue performance of the previous benchmark, our own BPR 135G3. BPR 435’s improved rheology and faster cure rate decrease blade cycle time, while its lower density reduces blade weight and cost. This stronger, lighter, far more durable adhesive enables the confident manufacture and use of longer rotor blades, particularly in less accessible locations such as offshore.
Momentive Specialty Chemicals’ latest Wind Energy infusion and tooling resin offerings make the production of carbon fiber reinforced components, even thick ones such as spar caps, more practical and less costly. The new, super-strong and durable bond paste supports the assembly and long-term use of very large wind turbines. All together, these products open new doors for the design and manufacture of longer, lighter, less expensive rotor blades.
