Published Sunday, April 17, 2011--Residents' unwanted cleaning products, chemicals and medication will be accepted for disposal by Beaufort County on May 7.
From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., hazardous material can be brought to the public works facility at 120 Shanklin Road in Beaufort, off U.S. 21 north of Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort.
Accepted drop-off items include medicine, cleaning materials, batteries, paints, turpentine, antifreeze, oil, gas, tires, insecticides, fire extinguishers, fluorescent bulbs, propane tanks, or other products labeled "warning," "danger" or "caution," according to a news release. Officials ask that products be brought in tightly sealed, original containers.
Fireworks, ammunition and smoke detectors will not be accepted, nor will material from contractors or businesses.
