Inkjet India Conference 2010 concluded on an exciting and energetic note and exceeded all pre –conference expectations. 75 high quality delegates from India & abroad attended the 1st international conference on inkjet printing technology in India with 14 presentations spread over 2 days hosted at the Nehru Centre.

Professor Shlomo Magdassi associated with Hebrew University of Jerusalem and the author/editor of The Chemistry of Inkjet Inks who is an Inauguration of Inkjet India 2010 authority on the subject was the chief guest and opened the event with an eye opening key note lecture on “Inkjet Printing of Functional Nanoparticles”. The presentation touched upon various innovative applications of inkjet from conductive inks to printing of biomaterials. Prof. Magdassi also showcased a new technology of customizing your daily dose of coffee by printing with an edible ink on to the foam of coffee.

Mr N.K.Pal, Sr. Packaging Excellence Manager (Hindustan Unilever Ltd), guest of honour spoke about the future requirements of FMCG companies from inkjet technology for packaging printing.

The next session included presentation on Additives for Inkjet & Dispersion technology involved in manufacturing of inkjet inks by Mr Subhash Srivastava of K-Tech (India) Ltd & Mr Srirangarajan of Buhler respectively. Mr Srivastava was of the view that for the growth of Inkjet technology in India there is a need for a good quality indigenous OEM.

The post lunch session saw Prof. Magdassi speaking about the Challenges involved in formulation of inkjet inks. In this presentation he emphasized on the essential aspects to be considered while manufacturing a good quality inkjet ink. He also commented that he was impressed by the hunger shown by the delegates to imbibe the knowledge and the professional setup of the conference. This was followed by a brief presentation on Colorants for Inkjet Inks by Mr Surendra Gupta of Heubach.
The last session of the day began with a presentation by Mr Paresh Shetty the Country Business Manager – Signage at HP India on the latest technology offering at HP for the graphics & signage industry in India.

Mr Shetty spoke about the latex technology which is HP’s latest contribution to the world of inkjet with a motive of moving towards greener technologies. He was also of the opinion that the printers need to upgrade themselves from just being print service providers to marketing service providers to be more successful in the market.

Day 1 concluded with a presentation by Mr Stewart Partridge currently the Sales Director – Asia Pacific for Sepiax Ink Technologies of Austria, and Chimigraf Ibérica SL. He was the founder of the globally respected company – Web Consulting and managed it for 13 years. His presentation was on Inkjet Ink Technology and Application: Will the future be Solvent, UV or Aqueous?. Mr Partridge introduced the concept of water based resin inks which use both evaporation & heat curing reaction to dry the ink. These inks exhibit adhesion to most of the substrates available in the market.

Day 2 began with digital textile printing focus sessions.

The first presentation was from Mr Maurizio Ponchiroli (BD Inkjet Asia, Huntsman Textile Effects) Ponchiroli who spoke about the worldwide trend of digital textile printing, factors leading to growth of digital textile printing and Huntsman’s digital textile ink offering for the India market.

This was followed by a presentation on ‘The New age of Digital Printing Solutions’ by Mr Paolo Milini from MS, a very innovative Italian company. According to them with their new JP6 & JPK platforms they can really give flatbed screen printing technology a stiff competition. Mr Milini also felt that there was a need for the ink manufactures, head manufacturers and equipment manufacturers to work together to give the customer a better experience.

Mr S.C.Sharma the President of Jaysynth Dyestuff Ltd, the only manufacturer of digital textile printing ink in India gave the audience an insight into the oppurtunities & growth prospect of digital textile ink in India. Mr Sharma emphasized the need for cost effective ink technology in India for the digital textile printing market to sustain its growth in India.

This was followed by presentations on Colour Management & profiling by Mr Vishnu Kamat (Sales Manager, AGS) & Mr Kiran Prayagi (Partner, GATE). They explained in detail the need of colour management & the advantages of this process to get optimum quality prints on various media.

The closing presentation of the evening was conducted by Mr Partridge and he spoke about the novel industrial applications possible with inkjet including direct printing on ceramics & glass. Inkjet India 2010 concluded with an with an interactive panel discussion on “Prospects of Inkjet in India” by eminent speakers.
