CHARLESTON, South Carolina (November 20, 2008) - MeadWestvaco Corporation (NYSE: MWV) Specialty Chemicals, Ergon Asphalt & Emulsion, Inc., an Ergon company, and Mathy
Construction Company have signed a sales and marketing agreement for the warm mix technology, REVIX™.
MWV will be the exclusive worldwide licensee of the water-free warm mix asphalt technology codeveloped by Ergon and Mathy. This creates an extension of MWV’s warm mix product line and offers new advantages to asphalt contractors, road building engineers and municipalities looking for innovative warm mix alternatives. MWV will offer the products & technology under the name Evotherm™3G. “Evotherm 3G offers an alternative route to market with long-distance transportation appeal,” Jonathan MacIver, Business Manager for MWV, said. “The chemistry of Evotherm 3G allows warm mix additives to be incorporated at asphalt terminals or asphalt mix plants. Contractors and road crews will have greater flexibility to move warm mix binders longer distances from terminals to construction sites while maintaining or exceeding high performance asphalt standards.” “Marketing our warm mix technology through MWV’s Asphalt Innovations team is a great opportunity,” J. Baxter Burns, Executive VP, Ergon Asphalt, said. “Warm mix asphalt is receiving enormous attention because it delivers performance equal to conventional hot mix, but with tremendous environmental benefits. Our technology meets the demanding requirements that many cities and states are employing to reduce energy consumption and emissions.” “The simplicity of our water-free technology is a great fit for contractors.” Steve Mathy, Mathy Construction Company. “By incorporating additives in the binder at asphalt terminals, we are able offer a cost-effective warm mix product that requires no changes of equipment or capital expenditures at mix plants.” Compared to hot mix asphalt, warm mix is a next-generation innovation that offers dramatic reductions in the fumes and emissions associated with asphalt paving. Evotherm’s technology enables asphalt mixes to be produced at temperatures up to 100 degrees Fahrenheit lower than traditional hot-mix asphalt applications, providing major environmental benefits. Evotherm 3G will join the existing family MWV warm mix asphalt products. Evotherm™ ET and Evotherm™ DAT technologies have been successfully utilized on hundreds of projects worldwide since 2003.
