Functional Chemicals business of Akzo Nobel has opened a new polysulfides production plant in China the fastest-growing polysulfides market in the world.

The inauguration of the polysulfides production plant, conducted by CEO Hans Wijers, took place in Taixing on a site next to the company’s existing MCA facility.

The investment has created around 40 new jobs and continues the acceleration of Akzo Nobel’s expansion strategy in China.

“There can be no doubt that China is becoming increasingly important to our strategic planning,” said Wijers. “We have opened several plants here in recent years and we could be holding several events similar to this one in the years to come as we continue to invest in a region where we are determined to become both a major manufacturer and employer.”

Akzo Nobel already commands a strong position in the global polysulfides market and the new Taixing plant will provide an additional annual production capacity of 10,000 tons.

Polysulfides are small liquid rubber molecules that can be used in sealants to help save energy. The product—which has established a leading role in insulating glass—is being used by the Chinese construction industry as an eco-friendly solution to help improve the effectiveness of double glazing.

Based in the Netherlands, Akzo Nobel is a multicultural organization serving customers throughout the world with human and animal healthcare products, coatings, and chemicals.
